CALIFORNIA THE CRISIS AT CALIFORNIA SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF AT RIVERSIDE

NAD on Alert About Dismissal of CSD Superintendent

Statement from Nancy J. Bloch,
Executive Director, NAD June 18, 2001

The NAD learned today that Rachel Stone, Superintendent of the California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR), would be terminated in the immediate future.

The NAD generally does not comment on personnel decisions, and in this case, the NAD has little information about the details and reason for the termination. However, the NAD, in cooperation with the California Association of the Deaf (CAD), is monitoring and evaluating this matter.

The NAD strongly supports the appointment of qualified deaf persons to leadership positions, especially in educational institutions and organizations serving deaf children and adults.
